More judges to process asylum seekers' cases

EXTRA judges will be involved in a major push to clear a huge backlog of cases dealing with asylum seekers and other immigrants seeking residency.

From next week, five High Court judges will be dedicated full time to hearing the cases -- compared to one lone judge who has been handling the heavy workload.

Currently, there is a backlog of 780 cases waiting to be heard, with an extra 17 cases joining the case list each week.
